About

This is Masudul (Mas) Biswas, Ph.D. (LSU, 2011), professor of communication and emerging media at Loyola University Maryland. My teaching interests include web development, diversity and the media, mobile media, digital content creation, and user experience. I have been a full-time faculty since fall 2011.

I have a wide range of research interests that include community and ethnic media; media, policy and diversity; diversity in journalism and communication education; global media; and web usability and accessibility. My scholarly work includes 19 peer-reviewed publications in academic journals, including Newspaper Research Journal, Journalism and Mass Communication Educator, and Teaching Journalism & Mass Communication, and 17 other scholarly publications, such as book chapters, encyclopedia entries. My first book (co-authored with Dr. Dorothy Bland at the University of North Texas) on DEI Strategies: Learning from Journalism and Mass Communication programs was published in November, 2023. The Rowman & Littlefield is the publisher of this book.

My second book on Ethnic News Media in Times of Crisis is recommended for publication and is currently under contract with the Peter Lang publishing. Additionally, my ongoing research projects include AI in Journalism and Communication Education and the Black newspapers’ coverage of COVID-19 vaccines/vaccination in the context of 1) racial disparities in health care and 2) public health messaging.
