First Annual 25K Annual Run
Sportanica kicked-off its first annual 25K run to help fight childhood obesity, by donating all of the profits of the event to underprivileged schools throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Every participant who entered, was graciously rewarded for their noble donation to this cause with a Sportanica gift card, valid for any delightfully designed sports bra. The 25K run, held at Venice Beach, enlightened people to the problem of America’s youth that is childhood obesity. As the social cause of Sportanica, childhood obesity is a health risk that needs to stop, beginning with exercise and proper diet. Being effected by childhood obesity isn’t just a health risk as a youth, but it is something that will carry into adulthood and create bigger health risks that could end your life. “Lack of proper physical health and fitness can be damaging not just physically but emotionally to the youth of today. Sportanica wants to help these kids lead a better life.” Sportanica CEO Symone Harris. The day started out with registration early in the morning. CEO and founder of Sportanica, Symone Harris, introduced the social cause of the company and the purpose of this fundraising run/walk. Following the CEO was First Lady Michelle Obama speaking on behalf of her organizational campaign, Let’s Move, and its importance of exercising to stay fit, in-shape, and most importantly healthy. Followed by Michelle Obama was a short speech from Reese Witherspoon about running and why she runs. “The physical and emotional health of an entire generation and the economic health and security of our nation is at stake” First Lady Michelle Obama, Let’s Move! Campaign. To congratulate the runners that partook in the 25K, Sportanica awarded every registered runner with a $10 gift card to Sportanica. However, the top three runners all won a separate prize.
