Loyola University Maryland’s Communication Department has approved my proposal to run my special topic course on Mobile Media as a regular course after spring 2020.

The goal of this course is to bridge both the consumption and creation aspects of mobile media (e.g., apps, mobile web, locative media, mobile social networking) to offer a holistic understanding of today’s mobile media-driven communication culture.

Topics covered in this course are 1) social, cultural and economic impacts of mobile media, especially mobile apps and website, 2) approaches to mobile storytelling with multimedia content optimized for mobile screens, and 3) mobile user-experience and app prototyping.

Selected Student projects

Building mobile web with mobile-optimized content & storytelling

In this project, students utilized mobile website building software Mobirise, mobile storytelling apps, such as Adobe Spark page/post and smartphone video. While writing textual content for mobile readers, students were expected to follow writing guidelines for the smartphone screens.
