Top Roping and Bouldering

What is the difference between Top Rope and Bouldering?

Bouldering is when the climber climbs without a rope or belay. The climber only climbs a certain, safe height and if he or she were to fall there are pads there for safety. Bouldering is known for strong, dynamic moves. Usually this type of climbing includes a lot of upper body strength.
Top Roping is climbing the wall a considerable height and having a rope attached to catch your fall. When top rope climbing a climber must be tied in and have a belayer who is working on the other end of the rope. To climb in the Mid-Atlantic series you do not need to be belay certified, however to belay in the series you must pass a belay test prior to the start of each competition.
While top roping uses th Yosemite Decimal System, 5.5-5.13, bouldering uses the Heuco Scale, V1-V9. Categories are broken down within these systems for beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
